Amalie Stalheim

The award-winning cellist Amalie Stalheim, born in 1993 in Bergen, has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Gulbenkian Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Ankara Presidential Symphony Orchestra, and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.

She is the winner of both the Swedish and Norwegian Soloist Prizes (2018, 2021), the Norwegian Society of Composers’ “Performer of the Year” (2024), and was named a “Rising Star” by BBC Music Magazine (2022).

Alongside performing the traditional cello concertos, Amalie regularly commissions and performs newly written 21st-century music. She has collaborated with some of the foremost composers, such as Kaija Saariaho, Missy Mazzoli, Anders Hillborg, Lasse Thoresen, Britta Byström, and Daniel Kidane.

Stalheim is the initiator of the mentorship program Klassisk Link, in collaboration with the Bergen International Festival, and from 2025–2027 Amalie is a visiting teacher, “Artist in Residence,” at the Malmö Academy of Music.
