Philippe Jayer

Philippe Jayer, born in Oslo, Norway, began playing the violin at the age of six. He is currently a student in the Young Talents program at the Barratt-Due Institute of Music, studying under Bård Monsen and Stephan Barratt-Due.  

Philippe has achieved significant recognition in national violin competitions, winning first prizes in several. He is a member of the Junior Orchestra at Barratt-Due and the prize-winning Saphir Quartet. He has performed in public concerts, festivals, and national broadcasts. Notably, he won the first prize at the National Midgard Competition in Horten in 2019. Since then, Philippe has attended multiple festivals and academies, receiving lessons and masterclasses from renowned violinists and pedagogues such as Robin Wilson, Henning Kraggerud, Dora Schwarzberg, and Paul Roczek. An active orchestral musician, he has been appointed the second violin group leader for the Young Philharmonic 2024 and has also played in the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra. This summer he was the concertmaster for the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra during the second week. 

As a founding member of the Saphir Quartet, established in the spring of 2018, Philippe has seen the group win multiple competitions, including the Norwegian National Midgard Competition in 2023 and the junior division gold medal at the 51st Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in South Bend, Indiana. The Saphir Quartet has performed at prestigious venues and is recognized as rising stars in the chamber music scene.
